Energy storage increases the flexibility of the electrical grid and helps to incorporate renewable energies into a
country’s energy mix. If deployed effectively, energy storage can allow off-grid energy to become a reliable and costeffective option in South Africa.
This workshop will feature insights on the current state of play by South African experts, including from the Industrial
Development Corporation (IDC), which serves as the chair of the South African Energy Storage Steering Committee. Presentations on relevant standards, conformance and technology will be given by U.S. experts from the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and Underwriters Laboratory (UL). The event will also foster discussion of cross-cutting issues and opportunities for U.S. – South Africa cooperation.
